Temporary Road Closure – A48 16 – 29 March 2026

TEMPORARY CLOSURE AND RESTRICTION OF A48 (AYLBURTON,ALVINGTON, WOOLASTON AND TIDENHAM PARISHES) FOREST OF DEAN DISTRICT

Published: 20 February 2026

Gloucestershire County Council, as traffic authority, intends to make an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended) to temporarily close and restrict part of the A48 from a point on the A48 at the village of Alvington to a point on the
A48 at the village of Tutshill for a distance of approximately 10 kilometres.

The reason for this restriction is to allow for carriageway signing and lining works.

There will be no waiting, stopping, or loading permitted throughout the duration of the said works.

However, access can  be maintained whenever it is safe to do so by:

  • A gateman will be present at the closure point throughout the works.
  • Residents/ farm access that need to reach their homes / farm should approach the gateman, who can allow access.
  • There may be a short delay depending on the exact location of road‑lining at the time of your arrival. This is to ensure your safety and that of the workers.
Some stages of such  work, particularly road‑lining does require short periods when the road surface must remain completely undisturbed. Allowing vehicles through during these moments could affect the quality of the works and create safety risks. Please note that delays will be kept to the minimum possible. We recognise the disruption this may cause and are grateful for your understanding. These improvements will help keep the road safe and in good condition for years to come.

The said road is expected to be restricted from 20:00hrs on 16th March 2026 until 06:00hrs on 29th March 2026 only or until the works have been completed whichever is the earlier.

Alternative Route – as signed on site.
Emergency access and pedestrian access to adjacent properties will be maintained
