V J Day Commemoration – Friday 15 August 2025
Woolaston Parish Council will honour all who were still fighting in the Far East after VE Day by commemorating VJ Day 80 on Friday 15 August 2025 at 1145 at the Memorial Bench, Netherend and afterwards in Woolaston Memorial Hall
Scheduled: 15 August 2025 - 11:45 to 14:00
Whilst VE Day (Victory in Europe) marked the end of the war in Europe in May 1945, it is sometimes forgotten that many thousands of Armed Forces personnel were still engaged in fighting in the Far East. Victory over Japan would come at a heavy price.
VJ Day marks the day, on which Emperor Hirohito broadcast to the World the surrender of the Japanese forces, thus ending the Second World War.
We have acknowledged the 80th Anniversary of significant events that marked the service and sacrifice made by millions of people both military and civilian, not least our families and the people of this village, in the search for peace.
We will meet again on Friday 15th August 2025 at 1145 to pay our respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice – we will observe a 2 minute silence along with the rest of the nation.
Following the short memorial, residents are warmly invited to gather in the Memorial Hall for light refreshments and a time of reflection.
